Rishta Scams and Red Flags
Red flags in online Muslim rishta: money requests, moving off-platform, and identity pressure. What to do instead of paying.
Any urgent payment
The story changes costume and the ask does not. A medical emergency, a customs fee, a ticket to attend your nikah, a gift card, or a charge to unlock a verified badge from a stranger: do not pay. Hamsar staff will not request a transfer to a personal JazzCash, EasyPaisa, or bank account. Paid membership, if you want it, happens inside the product with the price shown first.
Leaving the site immediately
Someone who will not speak where reports exist wants the report gone. A single request to move to another app, before you have both accepted an interest and talked, is a flag. Restricted contact exists so numbers and links do not slip through while you are still deciding. You can refuse without being unkind.
A perfect story and a borrowed face
Be wary of a profile that is flawless, in a hurry, and offended that you asked a normal question about the city. Stock-looking photos, a refusal of any family call, and pressure for a private picture are a familiar set. On Hamsar the photo owner chooses public, blurred, on request, or hidden. You never have to send a picture to be taken seriously, and you should not demand one as a test.
Religious guilt used as a lever
A person who says Allah will be displeased if you do not send money, or if you do not marry this week in secret, is using faith as pressure. A halal process can be slow and witnessed by family. Secrecy plus a payment is not piety. You can end the conversation and report it.
What to do
Do not pay. Do not send scans. Block, then report, and keep the evidence inside the product rather than forwarding it around the family WhatsApp until the details are everywhere. Tell a trusted elder what happened without blaming yourself for being polite at the start. Politeness was correct. Payment would not have been.
This is general guidance. It is not a religious ruling, legal advice, or immigration advice.
